Concepts:  Gnome vs. KDE desktop, desktop vs. X windows, desktop components, Linux filesystem (home directories, system directories, absolute vs. relative path, mounting removable media, permissions and ownership).

Tools: Desktop tools to use your Linux filesystem.

Desktop tools: Customizing your desktop, Internet browsing, Email, Network Manager, firewalls and SELinux.

Concepts: absolute vs. relative paths, PATH environment variable, reading error messages.

Commands: pwd, cd, mkdir, ls, cp, mv, rm, chmod

Concepts: Root user vs. ordinary user, updating vs. installing, packages, repositories (distribution, updates, extras), kernel updates.

Tools: update software, install software, using su in a shell.
